D) America the Beautiful
A) The Star Spangled Banner
In 1814, Francis Scott Key wrote the poem, Defense of Fort McHenry. The poem was later put to the tune of (John Stafford Smith's song) The Anacreontic Song, modified somewhat, and re-titled The Star Spangled Banner.
Congress proclaimed The Star Spangled Banner the U.S. National Anthem in 1931.
1) Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
2) On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
3) And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
4) O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand,
Between their lov'd homes and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
B) America
1) My country, ‘tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing:
Land where my fathers died! Land of the Pilgrim’s pride!
From ev’ry mountainside let freedom ring!
2) My native country, thee, land of the noble free, thy name I love:
I love thy rocks and rills thy woods and templed hills:
My heart with rapture thrills like that above.
3) Let music swell the breeze, and ring from all the trees sweet freedom’s song:
Let mortal tongues awake; let all that breathe partake;
Let rocks their silence break, thy sound prolong.
4) Our fathers’ God, to Thee, author of liberty, to Thee we sing:
Long may our land be bright with freedom’s holy light;
Protect us by Thy might, Great God, our King!
5) We love thine inland seas, thy groves and giant trees, thy rolling plains;
Thy rivers’ mighty sweep, thy mystic canyons deep,
Thy mountains wild and steep, all thy domains.
6) Thy silver Eastern strands, thy Golden Gate that stands, fronting the West;
Thy flowery Southland fair, thy North’s sweet crystal air:
O Land beyond compare, we love thee best!
By Rev. Samuel Francis Smith
C) Battle Hymn of the Republic
1) Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord:
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are store;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword: His truth is marching on.
Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah! His truth is marching on.
2) I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps,
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps;
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps: His day is marching on.
Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah! His day is marching on.
3) I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnished rows of steel:
“As ye deal with my contemners, so with you My grace shall deal”;
Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel, since God is marching on.
Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah! Since God is marching on.
4) He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat; ‘
He is sifting out the hearts of men before the judgement-seat:
Oh, be swift, my soul. To answer Him! Be jubilant my feet! Our God is marching on.
Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah! Our God is marching on.
5) In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free, while God is marching on.
Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah! While God is marching on.
By Julia Ward Howe
D) America the Beautiful
1) O beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties above the fruited plain.
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea.
2) O beautiful for pilgrim feet whose stern impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat across the wilderness.
America! America! God mend thine ev’ry flaw;
Confirm thy soul in self-control, thy liberty in law.
3) O beautiful for glorious tale of liberating strife,
When valiantly for man’s avail men lavish precious life.
America! America! May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness and ev’ry man divine.
4) O beautiful for patriot’s dream that sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam undimmed by human tears.
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea.

10. Big Bell Little Bell
= On Christmas day in a little town they were wondering what bell to ring,
The great big bell that went bong bong bong or the little bell that just went ding.
= The big bell said to the little bell, you can bet I’ll be chosen to ring.
‘cause I can make a great big bong bong bong & all you can do is go ding.
= The little bell felt downhearted, He thought I’m much to weak.
When suddenly the people shouted, Let the little bell ring on Christmas week.
= So if you’re just a little bell don’t feel sad, But remember one simple thing.
Tho you make not make a great big bong bong bong, People love the little bell that just went ding.

ALL TOGETHER…
Blessed Are You, Lord Our God, Who Daily Gifts Us With Time.
Bernadette - You who are Lord and Creator of Space and Time
yet who lives beyond them,
we praise You and honor You
for the gift of minutes, hours, days and years.
Each second of life that You give is precious and profound.
Constance - We pause now so as not to take these gifts for granted-
so that we may remember in a holy way
that all time is holy,
a gift which calls forth
songs of gratitude from our hearts.
We pause to gratefully remember
those whole persons of ages past
who call us to measure time in a godly way.
We call to mind:
Noah, counting forty rainy days and nights,
Job, waiting with longing in prayerful patience,
and Mary of Nazareth, numbering her nine months.
Bernadette - For those persons today who call us
to take time for work and for play,
to make time for love and praise,
to create time for rest
and the leisure necessary for creation,
we lift up our hearts in thanks.
We who live in the present
recall the past
so that by our remembrance we might more fittingly prepare
for the future time.
Constance - We who stand in the middle
of a trinity of time-
past, present and future-
do bless You, Source and Sustainer of All Seasons.
Blessed are You, Lord our God,
who daily gifts us with time.
AMEN! (‘Prayers for the Domestic Church’ by Edward Hays)

“A tiny tuned-up nose, cheeks just like a rose,
so sweet from head to toe; that little girl of mine.
Two eyes that shine so bright, two lips that kiss goodnight,
Two arms that hold me tight; that little boy of mine.
No one will ever know just what your coming has meant.
Because I love you so, you’re something heaven has sent.
You’re all the world to me, you climb upon my knee.
To me you’ll always be, that little girl of mine!”
The Partridge in a Pear tree was Jesus Christ.
Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.
Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.
The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke &
John.
The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books
of the Old Testament.
The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.
Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy
Spirit--Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution,
Leadership, and Mercy.
The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.
Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit--Love,
Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and
Self Control.
The ten lords a-leaping were the Ten Commandments.
The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.
The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief
in the Apostles' Creed.
My extended family gathers annually on Christmas Eve and enjoys a choral hayride in the back bed of a refurbished old red Ford truck/1960 in our hamlet of Lake Arthur, LA! It is a tradition established by my parents, to sing for the older fuel customers, now a few of the medical clinic patients and old friends…the last stop on the itinerary is by their graves as we sing Stille Nacht in four part harmony as my mother is German, first generation on both sides! It is a true benediction for all!

Sr. Yvonne circa 1958! Wonderful!
In the little city of Bethlehem, there lay a Child one day,
And the sky was bright with a holy light, o’er the place where Jesus lay:
Refrain: Alleluia! O how the angels sang, Alleluia how it rang –
And the sky was bright with a holy light, ‘twas the birthday of a King.
‘Twas a humble birthday but oh! How much God gave to us that day,
From the manger bed, what a path has led, what a perfect holy way.
Refrain...

May songs of the angels welcome you and guide you along your way. May the smiles of the martyrs greet your own as darkness turns into day. Every tear will be undone and death will be no more, as songs of the angels bring you home before the face of God.
